2008 E-rate Recipients

Nebraska Libraries Receive E-rate Discounts

Nebraska libraries were awarded $239,278 in discounts on telecommunications costs during Funding Year 2008 (July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009) through the E-rate (Universal Service Fund) program.

Discounts ranged from 20 to 90 percent, with 88 of the state's public libraries participating, including the Library Commission and Regional Library Systems. All 88 libraries were awarded telecommunications discounts, and 41 libraries also were awarded discounts on Internet services.

Discounts are awarded on a sliding scale based on the percentage of students in the local school district who are eligible for the free and reduced school lunch program, an indicator of the local level of need, and the County's Rural or Urban status as determined by the U.S. Census.
