2006 E-rate Recipients

Nebraska Libraries Receive E-rate Discounts

Nebraska libraries were awarded $285,551 in discounts on telecommunications costs during Funding Year 2006 (July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007) through the E-rate (Universal Service Fund) program.

Discounts ranged from 20 to 90 percent, with 107 of the state's public libraries participating, including the Library Commission and Regional Library Systems. 106 libraries were awarded telecommunications discounts, and 50 libraries also were awarded discounts on Internet services.

Discounts are awarded on a sliding scale based on the percentage of students in the local school district who are eligible for the free and reduced school lunch program, an indicator of the local level of need, and the County's Rural or Urban status as determined by the U.S. Census.  

The Nebraska Library Commission provides education, training, and consultation services to Nebraska library staff to assist with E-rate applications.
